A fun fabric flower!

This is my first ever tutorial! I hope it makes sense!

I saw a very cool fabric flower online, but the tutorial was $5.00 and I couldn't justify spending the money on it (even though my mind was really trying, I was even grasping at non-existent straws!)
So I decided to see if I could somehow come close. Here is what I came up with!

Do you want to make one?
Give it a shot, it's not too hard!

This Tutorial makes a flower that is about 3 inches across. To make it bigger or smaller, change the size of the fabric squares.

What you need:
  • Scrap fabric - I used a discarded t-shirt, but I think next time I would use something a little stiffer so it will keep shape better.
  • Scrap piece of felt
  • A button 3/4 in or bigger
  • Hot glue gun - I used the cool temp kind. Up side- no burnt fingers, Down side- you have to work quick!
  • Headband, alligator clip, or whatever you are attaching it to.
  • Optional- needle and thread (to make it more durable)

First, cut 8 - 2 1/2 inch squares out of your material and a 2 1/2 inch circle out of felt (don't worry it doesn't need to be perfect- you will trim it later!)

Then, fold your square in half, corner to corner, making a triangle

Fold in half again
Then fold the sides down
which makes a sort-of squished M shape
This is what the top of the petal looks like right now
Turn the piece so that it is a W and glue in between each section, but only on the tip

pinch together

flip over again with glue on the bottom (into a V)

Fold one side down

then the other

and glue together.
I also added a dot of glue between the layers where my fingers are after glueing down the length.

Flip it over and this is what your petal looks like!
well actually,  it probably looks more like this, but you can reshape it

Now make the rest of the petals....

Start glueing the petals together at the tips.
Be careful not to get too much glue on the top, you can cover some with the button but not a lot.

Keep going until you finish the flower shape.

This is what the back looks like, add little bits of glue to secure your petal shapes.

Add a line of glue on each petal (one at a time) and secure to the felt circle.

Very carefully trim your felt so it isn't seen when looking at the front of the flower.
Glue on a button.
Pick what you want to attach it to.
I attached mine to a hair clip, which I got at Jo-ann's
And you have a cute hair clip!
Enjoy!

A few projects I have completed

Here are a few projects I have completed in the past few months.

All four of these were created using thrifted adult shirts for $1 apiece.
Go here for the free dress tutorial and pattern from the blog Sew Much Ado.
I can't seem to find the tutorial I used for the flowered and animal rompers, but click here for a similar one and adjust to your hearts content. For the flower one, I made the sides bubble out and added elastic to the leg openings.
I also can't find the button down tutorial! Ugh, if I come across them, I will add the links.

This baby doll is my favorite out of all of the things I have made. She turned out better than I had even hoped! She was supposed to be a trial run, because I was creating my own pattern by tracing another doll and I thought for sure there would be some major glitches. But I love her! She was actually made out of a sheet for the body (we don't use top sheets in our house, they are so tangly!) some scrap fabric for the dress and scrap yarn and fleece for the hair. The reason I attempted her was because I really wanted to buy a doll for my little Baby Z from Justplainbeckyw on etsy but her shop said she was on vacation! I have gotten dolls from her as gifts for some special little girls and absolutely loved them. So since I couldn't buy one, I was determined to make one! She has since returned to selling items, so if you want one message her! She even customizes the hair eye and skin color!

I made these for my incoming nephew, he will be here any day!
The Infant dino hoodie was made using this free tutorial & pattern so graciously shared by Tricia from the blog - Made by Me & Shared With You. I added the dino spikes by cutting two of the the back pattern piece not on a fold then sewing in felt triangles. Don't forget to add a little extra seam allowance. I also lined the hoodie with a brown fleece to add extra warmth and to hide/ make the back seam more comfortable. The Stuffed animal was made using a pattern found by searching on google. Sorry, I didn't save it! :(

I crocheted this hat for Baby Z using a patten that I had in my stash. It's a pretty basic pattern, you can find them on pinterest and google pretty easily.

That's all for now folks, time to make dinner!

DIY makeup brush cleaner

I really wanted to share how to make your own makeup brush cleaner- easy and inexpensive. It works fantastically!

1 cup water, 1 Tbs white vinegar, 1 Tbs Dawn dishsoap

Of course, I found this on pinterest (which lead me here) and I decided to give it a try. My brushes definitely needed some TLC. It worked fabulously! Way better then the expensive stuff that I bought from the makeup counter! My brushes turned out soft and clean, like new! Don't worry they don't smell like vinegar when you are done.
For most of the brushes I just swirled them around in the mixture for 15-30 seconds then rinsed, which was plenty. For my foundation brush, I let it soak for 2-3 minutes, then swirled and rinsed. Reshape the brushes and let them dry.

Easy-peasy, just try not to think to much about the color of the cleaner when you are done...

Hello

Hello to anyone reading this!
This is my first post, on my first blog, so bear with me.

I am a little overwhelmed by how much time it is taking me to set up my blog. It is not helping that I am taking forever just trying to pick fonts and colors... Sometimes I need to take a step back and not be such a perfectionist.
So this is me taking a step back, and deciding to actually write a post for this blog I am creating before I get to tired and quit.

A little about me:
My name is Deanna and I am nearly 32 weeks pregnant with a precious little girl, who for creepy internet reasons will be referred to as Baby Z. I am almost at the mark of only having 2 months left. I am dreading that benchmark, because I can feel the panic just waiting to break loose...  let's not think about that.
Anyway, I am married to my middle school crush/ high school sweetheart. We have been married a little over a year, but been steadily dating since we were 16 years old. He is an amazing husband and is going to be a fantastic dad! I have always loved anything and everything crafty and am finding that there is nothing like being preggo to bring out your inner creativeness. Especially when pinterest is thrown into the mix. I have so many ideas and things that I want to do! I am especially trying to develop my very basic sewing skills. Which brings me to.....

My goals in creating this blog:
1. To keep track of the projects I complete
2. To keep completing projects
3. To have fun

So thats it! I hope you enjoy
